This sculpture is created to resemble someone coming through a wall, or substrate of some kind, and entering a space. This little girl becomes a declaration of our presence, our arrival. She carries these tattered flowers that reflect the difficulty of the journey during this lifetime. The layered journey of Black women and girls. Yet she smiles, and still holds her joy. And though the flowers hold a sense of heaviness, they become an offering.
She has returned with a blessing, with remembrance, with honor.
